These characters however do have motivations, even though most are pretty one note. It also has 40+ playable characters, but only about 5 of them are involved with the main storyline.
Though, I actually do like that it is mostly its own story, and while strange the connection to Trigger does make sense. Chrono Trigger is a 1995 role-playing video game developed and published by Square. It was originally released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System as the first game in the Chrono series. There is also very little motivation given to characters at the beginning, especially one of the major villains (which their motivation is only told at the end in an optional exposition dump, and it honestly doesn’t make sense imo.) Players are probably more likely to go deeper into the story just to figure out how it connects to Trigger, which it does but in a very abstract way. There are also some strange story choices. The story is also good for the most part, but it suffers from a lot of major details being told through text exposition, especially disc 2 where you can tell they we’re running out of budget. The combat is interesting but the game doesn’t explain the stamina aspect at all, which is probably the part that would confuse most players. Was it nice? Is my memory betraying me? It’s good, but not nearly as good as Trigger imo.
I've played CT dozens of times but CC only once. I can barely remember a few scenes of the game.
